The Brief more interest into the garden which was primarily lawn with a handful of trees around the edges. Hoping to design it herself, she had struggled with how to get interest into the centre of this large plot. A pond was on the wish list but otherwise, just a desire for plenty of colour.
The New Design
The vast expanse of lawn was divided by planting borders which created smaller areas of lawn within the garden. The existing brick retaining wall was opened up to introduce two steps, the main ones widened substantially, to provide a more welcoming route to the upper lawn which leads past the pond. A pergola leads to the main patio area. Within a few months of the garden being completed the couple were so delighted with it that they chose to celebrate their silver wedding with friends in their new garden.
2 years after completion they commissioned a painting of their garden in high summer by artist Louis Turpin.
The lawn now surrounded by a burst of colour in July.
